BLCP Perimeter, Issue 6, June 2016, features stories and activities of BLCP Power Station, with Pangda – Wimol Yongpanichkul as editor. Key content in this issue covers flood preparedness, internal relationship-building activities, and information on fuels used for power generation.
The "BLCP in Focus" column presents the advantages and limitations of various fuel types used for electricity generation, including natural gas, coal, oil, biomass, and nuclear, considering reserves, price, security, pollution control, and domestic resource utilization. It also compares the generation capacity and land area required for each type of power plant. For example, wind power plants require 50-150 square kilometers, while nuclear, coal, oil, and natural gas power plants only require 1-4 square kilometers.
A key feature in this issue is flood preparedness, especially in anticipation of the La Niña phenomenon, which the Meteorological Department forecasts will bring heavy rainfall to Thailand during the latter half of 2016. The BLCP Flood Emergency Team has developed a manual and guidelines for employees on flood prevention and response, including the preparation of equipment such as 3,000 sandbags and 8 water pumps, along with a communication plan, drawing on experiences from the 2015 floods that affected many areas in Rayong.
