BLCP Power Limited (BLCP) recognizes the importance of restoring good health to communities and the environment. Therefore, it has embraced the New Theory Agriculture approach initiated by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej Rama IX as a guideline to encourage farmers to optimize their agricultural land use, transitioning from monoculture to integrated farming, and replacing chemical fertilizers and pesticides with organic fertilizers and local plant extracts. This culminated in the "Sufficiency Economy Organic Farming Project," aimed at enhancing the quality of life for farmers in the areas surrounding the power plant and fostering sustainability in the agricultural sector.
BLCP has consistently supported farmers since 2015, focusing on farmer groups in Maptaphut Municipality, Rayong Province, namely Khod Hin 2 and Khao Phai Communities. These groups were encouraged to transition from traditional chemical-intensive farming, which had resulted in soil degradation, plant diseases, pest infestations damaging produce, and adverse effects on farmers' health. This transition involved adopting the Sufficiency Economy Organic Farming approach across a total area of 57 rai, which has achieved organic farming certification (TAS 9000). BLCP has provided trainers to impart knowledge on various topics, including soil amendment production, plant disease observation, preparation of microbial fermented water for nourishing leaves, flowers, and fruits, insect repellent, and plant disease treatment, culturing microorganisms from white leaf mold, and soil sampling for fertility assessment.
Participating farmers can leverage local resources for cultivation, thereby reducing their operational costs. This initiative restores confidence and revives lost traditional wisdom among farmers, fostering a sense of local pride. Beyond fostering understanding between older and younger generations, it promotes intergenerational interaction and mutual learning. The project not only contributes to community and environmental well-being, reduces expenditures, and increases income, but also fosters cooperation and strengthens the community. Its objective is to disseminate organic farming knowledge to agricultural plots within Maptaphut Municipality and Rayong Province.
