The Supervisory Committee for the Environmental Impact Prevention, Mitigation, and Monitoring Plan of the Coal Terminal Project, BLCP Power Company Limited, held its 73-4/2019 meeting on Friday, December 20, 2019, from 09.30-11.30 hrs. at Meeting Room 204, Map Ta Phut Industrial Port Office, Rayong Province. Mr. Witool Yootim, Deputy Governor (Operations 3) of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, chaired the meeting.
The meeting acknowledged the progress report on maintenance activities for BLCP Power Station's Unit 1 and Unit 2. Unit 1 underwent maintenance from November 3-25, 2019, and Unit 2 from December 1-23, 2019. Both units are now operating normally. Additionally, the meeting was informed of the progress of dredging activities for maintaining the navigation channel of the Coal Terminal Project, which has received its permit and is expected to commence dredging on February 15, 2020, and be completed on February 27, 2020, using suction dredging to minimize dispersion.
The environmental impact monitoring results for October 2019 and September-November 2019 indicated that all indices were within the prescribed standards, including the amount of pollutants discharged from the plant, opacity, ambient air quality, noise level, quality of water discharged from the cooling water canal, sea water temperature, sea water quality, and marine ecological quality.
The BLCP Power Station and Coal Terminal Project has fully complied with various environmental impact prevention and mitigation measures, such as water spraying at the coal yard, installation of pollution control systems, provision of noise prevention equipment, installation of tarpaulins during coal unloading, and provision of marine life-saving equipment. The working group inspected the pier area and visited the Environmental Quality Monitoring and Control Center, as well as the air quality monitoring station.
Regarding Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, BLCP Power Station organized visitor activities, with a total of 3,242 visitors during September-December 2019, and 138,100 visitors since 2001. Additionally, there are projects to create careers and income for the community, local tax returns totaling over 928 million baht, and continuous social and environmental development activities and promotion of community culture, such as beach clean-ups, Kathina merit-making food stalls, release of aquatic animals, and the Mobile Medical Unit for Community Friends project, all of which received praise from community representatives.
