BLCP Seagrass Conservation Project

Seagrass resources serve as habitats, feeding grounds, spawning grounds, and nurseries for marine life, including providing food for green sea turtles and dugongs. They also help reduce coastal erosion with their roots anchoring the seabed. Past industrial and commercial development around the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate has led to the degradation of seagrass beds.

In 2020, the Eastern Gulf of Thailand Marine and Coastal Resources Research and Development Center, in collaboration with BLCP Power Limited, experimented with restoring seagrass resources through transplantation in the area of Koh Saket, Map Ta Phut Sub-district, Rayong Province. It was found that the second transplantation, which included protective enclosures against marine animals, resulted in good seagrass growth with a high survival rate of 65 percent. Therefore, the collaboration has been expanded to continue the project for the conservation and restoration of resources in the Koh Saket area.
