The October-December 2556 issue of Energy Plus Journal features a key article on "Energy Literacy and National Development" by Dr. Naokon Sithi-phong, 3rd Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, who emphasized the importance of energy as a vital resource for life and the Ministry's commitment to creating energy security for national development.
Energy Literacy is the understanding of energy matters, which is crucial for national development. This issue highlights the challenges faced by the ASEAN region in maintaining the balance of the "Energy Development Triangle," which comprises economic growth, energy security, and environmental sustainability, requiring cooperation and understanding from all sectors.
The Ministry of Energy has established a 20-year Energy Conservation Plan (2554-2573) to reduce energy consumption and cut carbon dioxide emissions by 130 million tons, as well as a 10-year Renewable Energy Promotion Plan (2555-2564) targeting 25% renewable energy. These initiatives aim to achieve a "Low Carbon Society" by 2564 through developing the production sector, adjusting consumption behaviors, and environmental care.
The issue also presents interesting projects and innovations, such as the "Hydropower Air Extractor," the 2555 Energy Seedling Champion, which uses water power instead of electricity, and the "A Drop of Water" design, a raindrop-shaped rainwater tank. Additionally, there are articles on converting plastic waste into petrochemical energy and a guide for constructing household biogas production systems to promote the use of alternative energy in communities.
Thailand also pursues energy diplomacy policies within both multilateral frameworks, such as ASEAN and APEC, and bilaterally with various countries to enhance energy security. Energy curricula for youth are also being developed, along with the creation of online energy learning channels, to ensure the public has accurate knowledge and understanding, enabling them to participate in national energy planning.
The journal also presents the concept of "Green Building," emphasizing energy saving and environmental friendliness, with examples of buildings in Thailand and abroad. This includes the "ENERGY PAINTING 2013" event, a royal tribute painting competition on the theme "The King...The Energy of the Land," held from September 9-11, 2556 at the Energy Complex to promote widespread energy awareness.
