BLCP Power Station Invites You to Understand the Ft Charge to Address the Energy Crisis
In the current situation where the conflict in the Middle East is being closely watched by the world, many may start to worry about the potential impact on the cost of living, especially the "electricity bill" we use every day.
BLCP Power Station (BLCP) is concerned and wishes to be part of creating understanding about the "Ft charge" so that the public can be informed and prepared to cope with the volatility of global energy prices.
What is the Ft charge? Who determines it?
The Ft charge (Fuel Adjustment Charge) is a variable electricity charge that reflects the changing fuel costs for electricity generation according to global situations. Many may misunderstand that power plants determine electricity rates. However, the Ft charge is actually determined, considered, and announced for adjustment every 4 months by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to reflect the true costs as fairly as possible.
For the current period (January – April 2026), the Ft rate will be 9.72 satang per unit (or 0.0972 baht per unit)*
How the Middle East Crisis Affects Our Electricity Bill
The reason electricity bills may be affected by global situations is because Thailand relies on natural gas as the primary fuel for electricity generation by as much as 65%**. When war or unrest occurs, it directly impacts two main factors:
Fuel Prices
Global energy costs, such as natural gas, coal, and oil, may increase rapidly.
Exchange Rates
Most fuel imports use US dollars. If global situations cause the Thai Baht to weaken, import costs will further increase, even if energy prices remain stable.
When electricity generation costs increase due to these external factors, the Ft charge tends to increase, which will result in a higher overall electricity bill.
BLCP Invites Thais to Save Energy, Save Costs. Although we cannot control the global energy situation, we can easily help reduce our household electricity burden as follows:
- Turn off and unplug: Turn off switches and unplug electrical appliances every time they are not in use.
- Set air conditioner to a suitable cool temperature: Set air conditioner temperature to 25-26 degrees Celsius.
- Maintain equipment: Regularly clean air conditioners and check electrical appliances for deterioration or power leakage.
- Choose Label No. 5: Choose electrical appliances with Energy Saving Label No. 5 for maximum efficiency.
