On March 3, 2562 B.E., Chinese state media reported that a team of Chinese scientists is studying the feasibility of establishing a space solar power station, or "space solar farm," to transmit energy back to Earth. This project aims to significantly reduce terrestrial pollution and alleviate energy shortages.
Mr. Xie Gengxin, Deputy Head of the Chongqing Collaborative Innovation Research Institute for Civil-Military Integration, revealed that researchers have begun designing a test structure in Bishan District. This structure will occupy approximately 83 rai and has an initial budget of 100 million yuan (approximately 500 million baht) to demonstrate space-based energy transmission technology, as well as to study the effects of microwave radiation on living organisms.
The construction of the space solar power station is expected to take 1-2 years. Following this, a tethered balloon equipped with solar panels will be built to test microwave transmission technology. The balloon will convert sunlight into microwaves and beam them back to Earth, and a ground receiving station will then convert the microwaves into electricity for integration into the power grid.
Currently, the research is still in its initial stages; therefore, the size and weight of the power station have not yet been determined. However, if the project is successful, the Chinese-developed space solar power station will orbit above Earth at an altitude of 36,000 kilometers and is expected to begin generating power before 2040.
